Speaking on The View from The Lane Podcast, Athletic journalist Jack Pitt-Brooke has shared what he knows about Dele Alli’s situation at Tottenham and the London club’s hopes that Newcastle will come in for him.

Alli could reportedly leave north London this month, and Newcastle have been linked with a move in the lead-up to this transfer window.

Tottenham have reportedly been hoping that the Magpies would come in for a bid for Alli, despite the fact Antonio Conte says he has ‘great potential’, but Pitt-Brooke is led to believe that the Tyneside outfit aren’t actively pursuing that deal.

What’s been said about Alli?

The journalist was discussing Alli’s situation.

“The way I understand it, Dele and Ndombele would be Spurs’ first-choice players to get rid of, but there is not much of a market there,” Fellow journalist Charlie Eccleshare said.

“Spurs have been hoping for a while that maybe Newcastle would want Dele Alli this month, but I gather that is not currently the case,” Pitt-Brooke said.

Perfect destination

Which club wouldn’t want Newcastle to be in for one of their fringe players right now?

We hate to say it, but the Magpies are desperate right now, and with desperation comes overspending in the transfer market.

Alli is exactly the type of player you may expect Newcastle to go for – plenty of pundits have even tipped the move, but up until now, Pitt-Brooke hasn’t gathered wind of any genuine interest from St James’ Park.

Of course, that could all change, but it seems as though Spurs want this move more than Newcastle do.
