Celtic badly missed the quality of Odsonne Edouard in this afternoon’s defeat by Rangers.
The Gers won at Parkhead for the second successive year by beating Neil Lennon’s side 2-0, courtesy of a brace from Connor Goldson of all people.
Celtic boss Lennon started Patryk Klimala up top in the absence of his French striker, but it was a difficult afternoon for the £3.5 million Polish forward.
Klimala, who had 67 minutes on the field, only managed 12 touches during the entire game, illustrating that Rangers boss Steven Gerrard’s tactics to negate the 21-year-old worked to a tee.
This was his first-ever Old Firm clash and therefore he should be given the benefit of the doubt.
But Tam McManus has stuck the boot in on Twitter, describing the young striker’s performance as ‘hopeless’ and said it was as if Celtic had 10 men.
Leigh Griffiths, one of the best goalscorers in Scottish football, came on for Klimala with 23 minutes to go, but even he struggled against Rangers’ defence.
It simply wasn’t Celtic’s day and we’ll never know if Edouard would’ve made a difference – but he might have.
