According to The Telegraph, Joe Gomez could sign a new contract at Liverpool despite interest being shown in the defender from Aston Villa.
The centre-half hasn’t had the easiest of campaigns after returning from a long-term injury. The arrival of Ibrahima Konate has seen him slip down the pecking order at Anfield and starts have been hard to come by – especially in the Premier League.
However, Liverpool seem keen to keep the 24-year-old at the club, and one man who is seemingly very happy about this rumour is Jose Enrique.
Enrique is very keen to see Gomez commit his future to Liverpool, and we can understand why.
Yes, he’s not been a regular for the Reds as of late, but let’s not forget, just two years ago, Gomez was considered one of the brightest young defenders on the planet.
He played a vital role in the Reds’ Premier League win in 2019/20, and he looked as solid as ever in 2020/21 before his injury.
Sadly that injury has slightly derailed his career, but if he can get back on track, Liverpool will, once again, have an incredible talent at their disposal, and at just 24, time is very much on his side.
Losing Gomez could have been a mistake that Liverpool lived to regret for years to come, but luckily, it looks as though the Merseyside club will be tying the defender down at Anfield for the foreseeable future.
Enrique hopes that this report is accurate, and we’re sure he’s not the only one.
