Gabby Agbonlahor has backed Leeds United in their call to appoint ex-Norwich City manager Daniel Farke as their new manager.
It has been a long time coming, but the German, who helped Norwich to promotion on two occasions, is to step back in the Championship and to a Leeds United side in all sorts of bother.
Whilst Agbonlahor stated that Daniel Farke is a ‘good appointment’, he did warn the Yorkshire club that if they don’t bounce back straightaway, then they could become ‘stale’ in the Championship, as he told talkSPORT Breakfast (04/07/23 at 9:30 am).
Leeds fans have been here before, the last time they dropped, albeit they were in a far worse situation, it took them a very, very, very long time to recover.
They can’t go down that same road again, or else, it will just eat away at a fanbase that is one of the best in the country.
But Farke is now tasked to put the wrongs of relegation right by earning promotion next season, as Agbonlahor shared his thoughts.
“I think it’s the right appointment,” said Agbonlahor. “He is going to do what it takes. I do feel if he gets the right players he wants in, then there is no reason why Leeds won’t come straight back up.
“I think they need to come straight back up. When they last got relegated, it took them a long time to come back to the Premier League. They can’t afford to spend one or two seasons in the Championship, they could become stale in there.
“So, I think it’s a good appointment and hopefully they come back up.”
Massive pressure on Farke
There is a lot Farke has to deal with and it’s the usual issues facing a team that has just got relegated.
From players that probably want out, to a team whose morale is on the floor, a defence that was one of the worst in the country last season and a fanbase that is very frustrated.
Farke’s man-management skills are going to be tested here and if he gets that part of the game right from the get-go, then it will serve him well.
