Newcastle United midfielder Jonjo Shelvey has told The Beautiful Game podcast that he is keen on the idea of seeing both Philippe Coutinho and Kalidou Koulibaly at St. James’ Park.

Newcastle are currently waiting for a takeover bid to be confirmed, and if the deal does go through they are set to become one of the richest clubs in world football.

Newcastle have already been linked with some of the biggest players in world football, with Philippe Coutinho and Kalidou Koulibaly both heavily linked.

And Shelvey would be keen on the idea of Newcastle making a double swoop for the pair.

“I’m packing my suitcase ready to go,” he joked, when asked about the rumours over Coutinho and Koulibaly.

“If it does happen it would be great for the club, and we’d hopefully get those top players to come to Newcastle.

“It’s a great city and to get those sort of players would be great for the club.”

Coutinho and Koulibaly certainly would make Newcastle’s squad stronger, if they were to join.

Bleacher Report claims that Newcastle could launch a £70 million bid to take Coutinho from Barcelona, while Koulibaly is valued at £90 million according to El Desmarque.

Coutinho could add a real creative spark to Newcastle’s midfield, and he would be the most exciting signing the Magpies have made for a number of years.

Koulibaly, meanwhile, would tighten up Newcastle’s defence, as the Senegalese international is renowned as one of the finest centre-backs in world football.
