Leeds fans have taken to Twitter to react after it was announced that Marcos Abad had signed a new contract until 2025.
What’s the story?
Well, the Leeds goalkeeping coach has earned his corn through the development of Illan Meslier, and he’s now been rewarded.
Abad has penned a new four-year contract, which could take his stay at Elland Road to eight years having arrived in 2017.
The Spaniard has played a huge role in helping Leeds finally get out of the Championship, since Victor Orta hired him four years ago.
Abad’s role goes beyond goalkeeping, however.
He has often been spotted alongside Marcelo Bielsa on the touchline, barking orders next to the Argentine.
Evidently, Abad plays a key role behind the scenes at Elland Road.
Leeds owe Marcos Abad for Illan Meslier rise

The £5m signing of Meslier was a masterstroke, as the Frenchman has the potential to become the best in his position.
However, potential needs nurturing, and Abad is doing a fine job with the 21-year-old.
Meslier has already broken a long-standing Premier League record, becoming the first goalkeeper to keep eight clean sheets before their 21st birthday.
The wonderkid is also No.1 for France’s Under-21 side, and is the undisputed No.1 at Elland Road.

At 21, the sky really is the limit for Meslier, partly thanks to Abad.
As long as the 36-year-old remains at Thorp Arch, the goalkeeping prodigy should iron out the few creases left in his game.
For now, let’s see what the Leeds fans on Twitter have been saying about the news…
