Speaking on The Big Interview with Graham Hunter, David Moyes has been discussing Declan Rice.
Moyes absolutely adores Rice, but as a manager with incredibly high standards, the Scot has pinpointed some areas where the defender could improve.
Indeed, Moyes would like to see Rice become more of a leader at West Ham, and every time he goes on England duty, Moyes tells the midfielder to study how Harry Maguire and Harry Kane conduct themselves, stating that he needs to bring that sort of attitude back to West Ham.

Moyes had nothing but good things to say about Rice.
“He is someone who has improved incredibly. When I first came he played at centre-half. I have to give a lot of credit to Manuel Pellegrini who put him in as a midfielder between my two stints, He gave him more starts as a midfield player. The thing people won’t see about Declan is that he’s a great lad. He’s great to work with, very polite and to do a lot of things. This year I wanted him to watch Mark Noble, how he interacts with the players, the staff, how he interacts with the directors when those times come,” Moyes said.
“We’re asking Declan to be a big leader, and when he goes away with England I say I hope you’re watching Harry Maguire and Harry Kane and the top boys to see how they’re working, because he has to bring that back to help us.”
Great environment
If Declan Rice is looking to grow into more of a leader, he’s in a great environment to do just that.
Every few months, Rice gets to meet up with an England team filled with some of the most experienced role models within the game, and if he can learn from these veterans, he could be a future England captain himself.
Kane, Maguire and Jordan Henderson are all brilliant players from Rice to be learning from, and this side of his game will only improve as time goes on.
