Manchester City fans have taken to Twitter in fury after hearing what Sam Allardyce said about them in his pre-match press conference.
The former England boss – unprompted – aimed a dig at the Citizens for the amount they’ve spent on defenders over the years.
Speaking before his West Brom side face Burnley, Allardyce said: “Manchester City have become a big club on the fact they’ve spent at least £450 million just on defenders…”
Now, his words seem to have angered the Manchester City supporters below, who have reacted badly to his comments.
It’s no secret that Pep Guardiola’s side have spent a bit of money.
However, that is just the way it is, and because of who owns them.

There’s no benefit for Allardyce to get jealous, or bitter, when speaking about the Citizens.
They are in a different stratosphere to West Brom in terms of resources and ambitions, so Allardyce shouldn’t even bother wasting energy thinking about them.
His comments are especially strange, however, because nobody actually asked him about Manchester City.

In that respect, it’s potentially an inner belief of his that the Citizens’ spending is something that’s not right, in his mind.
At the end of the day, it is what it is, and numerous clubs nowadays spend silly amounts of money on bolstering their squad – Allardyce just needs to get with the times.
Let’s see what the Manchester City fans on Twitter have been saying about his comments…
