Lazio midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic has seemingly ruled out a move to Liverpool just days after being linked with Jurgen Klopp’s Premier League powerhouses, speaking to the Lazio Style Channel.
It has been the theme of the summer really.
Ever since it became clear Gini Wijnaldum wouldn’t extend his stay at Anfield – moving to Paris Saint-Germain on a free transfer after his contract expired – Liverpool have been linked with a host of talented central midfielders.
So far, however, none have arrived, with Renato Sanches, Nicolo Barella, Pedro Goncalves, Yves Bissouma and more coming and going in the gossip columns.
Liverpool looking to replace Wijnaldum but Milinkovic-Savic move appears unlikely
It was Milinkovic-Savic who found himself under the microscope last week, with Calciomercato reporting Liverpool had lodged an enquiry for a Serbia international famously dubbed “better than Paul Pogba”.
The report did suggest Liverpool would be unwilling to match Lazio’s demands for the £70 million-rated playmaker.
Either way, Milinkovic-Savic is determined to stay put, committing his immediate future to a Lazio side that recently unveiled Maurizio Sarri as Simone Inzaghi’s replacement.
“I feel like a leader now. It is my sixth year here and I hope to stay for many more years,” said the Spain-born 26-year-old.

“I see the young players here and think about when I was in their place, so I try to help them the same way the old guard helped me.
“They are intense training sessions (under Sarri), but I feel good. We’ll play the ball to feet a lot more and I can’t wait to get started.”
But that, too, has gone quiet as Liverpool’s pursuit of a new midfielder goes on with no end in sight.
