Tony Mowbray has admitted that he would ‘advise’ the Blackburn owners not to stand in the way of Ben Brereton Diaz if an ‘unbelievable’ offer came in for the rumoured Newcastle and Leeds United target.
The Blackburn manager made it clear that he wants his star striker to stay and ‘score 40 goals’ for the club in their promotion bid, as he told BBC Radio 5 Live Sport.
Brereton Diaz’s recent rise, which includes the English-born player representing Chile, has seen him score 20 goals from 25 Championship matches this term.
As a result, a number of clubs, including the likes of Newcastle and Leeds, have expressed interest to want to sign the 22-year-old star, as reported by Eurosport.
In a pretty honest take on the whole matter, Mowbray shared his thoughts on Brereton Diaz’s future at Ewood Park.
“Ben’s situation is an interesting one,” said Mowbray. “I think there is the club aspect. My personal relationship with Ben. I think Ben would like to finish the job here.
“If somebody comes in with a bid that is just unbelievable, for Ben, and good enough for the club. I would advise the owners not to stand in his way.
“I hope he stays. I hope he scores 40 goals for us this year and helps us have a fantastic season.
“But, if somebody bids money we can’t turn down, and it’s life-changing for Ben Brereton Diaz, then who am I to stop him from earning £100k-a-week, living in a foreign country where he wants to go with his partner and start his life? He’s earned that right.”

As thing stand, Blackburn are heading for automatic promotion and making a long-awaited return to England’s top-flight.
But a potential sale of their thriving striker might just derail those promotion dreams and dampen the mood in the camp.
Someone like Newcastle need more goals up top, especially now that Callum Wilson is facing a spell on the sidelines.
The Magpies certainly have the money to lure Brereton Diaz towards their direction and there will be a few nervous faces across Lancashire during these coming weeks.
