Celtic new-boy Youssouf Mulumbu sat down for an exclusive interview with the Scotsman, and shared what he told his agent before securing a move to Parkhead on transfer deadline day.
Brendan Rodgers received criticism from some sections of the Celtic support for his failure to adequately strengthen his options this summer, and the signing of Mulumbu was hardly met with much optimism.
The Democratic Republic of Congo international, 31, might just prove to be a useful addition to the Hoops squad, however, what with such a long and physically punishing campaign ahead for Brendan Rodgers’ side.
Mulumbu sat down for an exclusive interview with the Scotsman, and shared how he is hoping to make a big impact during his time with Celtic:
“I was really clear with my agent that I wanted to play at the highest level possible. The highest level for me was the English Premier League but if it didn’t happen, the other option was Celtic. I can say I’m lucky to be here. But at the same time, my performances brought me. So it wasn’t really a gamble because I knew something big was going to happen for me. Now I just have to show why I am a Celtic player. I first heard of Celtic’s interest four weeks ago. My agent called me and he had spoken to the board so after that I had to have a chat with the manager. When a manager like Brendan Rodgers calls then you don’t hesitate. Once that happened it was: ‘Let’s go!’
The former Kilmarnock man is a defensive midfielder by trade, and at the very least, he will bring more competition, along with an extra sense of physical presence to Celtic’s engine room.
