Christian Eriksen is expected to leave Inter Milan this month and could return to the Premier League with Arsenal, Cristiano Giaretta told Tuttomercatoweb.

Just 12 months after fans flocked to the San Siro to pay an impassioned welcome to their new Danish play-maker, Eriksen could soon be making a lonely trip back to to the airport.

Inter director Beppe Marotta has already confirmed that the former Tottenham talisman is free to leave, having failed to win over the uber-demanding Antonio Conte during a forgettable spell in Serie A.

According to FC Inter News, Eriksen is a £25 million target for Spurs’ bitter rivals Arsenal, although the sudden emergence of Emile Smith-Rowe has quietened the calls for a new number ten at the Emirates.

But Giaretta, an experienced sporting director now working in Britain with Watford, would not be surprised to see Eriksen return to the English capital this month.

“Arsenal are regaining confidence. They have started marching again and Eriksen, honestly, I wouldn’t see him doing badly (with the Gunners),” Giaretta explained.

“In light of the facts, yes (he struggled at Inter). But every player needs trust, an opportunity. And at Inter he had few opportunities. He must feel strong, important.”

In truth, Eriksen never looked like a good fit for Conte’s 3-5-2 system.

The former Chelsea boss prefers hard-running, box-to-box midfielders than an old-school number ten. Eriksen has started just four Serie A matches this season, failing to provide a single goal or assist.
