Jose Mourinho told talkSPORT (29/06/21 at 7:35 pm) that Tottenham striker Harry Kane would have been ‘more than happy’ to not score yesterday when England were winning 1-0.
The Three Lions knocked Germany out of Euro 2020, with Raheem Sterling opening the scoring and Kane then netting his first goal of the tournament with minutes left on the clock.
It was a big moment for the Tottenham man because a lot was being said about the player during the group stages.
But Mourinho, who managed Kane at Spurs last season, made it clear that the Golden Boot winner would have been ‘more than happy’ at 1-0, even though he hadn’t scored yet.
“Honestly, knowing him, I believe 1-0 with Sterling goal, he would be more than happy,” said Mourinho. “And he would be celebrating exactly the same.
“But, of course, a striker is a striker. And the goal, it means everything to them. To score against Germany, a knockout game, at Wembley, with the England shirt, it means everything for this kid.
“For me, he deserves this. He has a lot more to give, of course. I still think the team has to learn what Harry wants and what Harry needs.
“For some periods, they cannot find him. They aren’t finding him.”

This is where it matters most and this is where Kane is showcasing his ‘world-class’ talents by delivering the goods.
A lot may have been made about Mourinho’s time at Spurs, but one thing cannot be argued, he got the best out of the Englishman.
The individual awards, or lack of them, may not have showcased it, but Kane produced one of the most complete performances in Premier League history.
And as much stick as Mourinho got for his style, his tactics around England’s captain played a huge part in that.
