Kieran Trippier has been speaking to the media after Newcastle recorded an impressive 3-1 win over Everton in the Premier League last night.

Interestingly, he mentioned the Atlético Madrid supporters when eulogising over just how good an atmosphere the Newcastle fans created.

What’s the story?

Well, Trippier has played 446 games throughout his career, but he’s never witnessed an atmosphere like last night in any of them.

His words, not ours.

Speaking after full-time, the 31-year-old said: “To be honest with you, I’ve played in a lot of stadiums before. I thought Atlético Madrid’s stadium was electric, but when we were coming out to the banner, honestly, I’m not just saying it, it’s something I’ve never experienced in my career.”

Given how intimidating the Atlético Madrid fans make the Wanda Metropolitano feel, that is quite the claim from Trippier.

It’s credit to the Toon Army for backing their team in phenomenal fashion, at a time where the players really, really need that extra boost.

For a player as travelled as Trippier to say he’s never experienced something like that before speaks volumes.

Kieran Trippier was a fantastic signing by Newcastle

Forgetting his obvious technical talents for a second, it’s Trippier’s mentality which we think will keep Newcastle in the Premier League.

After such a sensational performance, in which he scored his first Newcastle goal with a brilliant freekick, it would’ve been easy for the England international to get a bit excited in his interview.

However, if anything, he looks quite glum as he clearly realises there’s still a long way to go before anyone at St James’ Park should be patting themselves on the back.

Having characters like that in the dressing room, who will ensure nobody gets carried away, must be a dream for Eddie Howe.

Both talent wise and mentality wise, Trippier was a stunning signing.
