What Sofiane Feghouli lacks in performances he certainly makes up for with talk off the pitch ahead of West Ham United’s crucial clash with Southampton.
Sofiane Feghouli is passionate about doing well for West Ham
A terrible start to the season, infighting amongst fans, resentment towards owners and concerns over safety have soured the Hammers’ season so far.
Slaven Bilic‘s side have lost four of their opening five Premier League matches and scraped past Bournemouth in their solitary victory.
The Hammers were also embarrassingly dumped out of the Europa League by Romanian minnows Astra Giurgiu for the second season running.
West Ham United’s Adrian, Dimitri Payet and team mates look dejected
Fans are at each other’s throats over standing at their new 60,000 seater Olympic Stadium home while Karren Brady – who spearheaded the club’s move to Stratford – was allegedly spat at by her own supporters as things turned sour in a 4-2 home defeat to Watford recently.
Matters haven’t been helped by a repeat score last time out in the Premier League against West Bromwich Albion and a toxic atmosphere is starting to fester at West Ham with supporters beginning to question some of Bilic’s team selections and tactics.
After that game one of Bilic’s summer recruits, Sofiane Feghouli – who was signed on a free transfer from Valencia – was very forthright with his views on the club’s official website.
Accrington Stanley’s Janoi Donacien in action with West Ham United’s Sofiane Feghouli
The honest Algerian star told fans exactly what they wanted to hear demanding better for the supporters and pledging to run himself into the ground to earn a place in the side and help the Hammers get back to winning ways.
“Each and every one of us will take a long look at ourselves and we all know that we need to do more when we wear the West Ham colours,” Sofiane told whufc.com.
“We are a good team with some great players, but we need more from everyone in the squad, and I will be the first to try to give more.
“We can’t afford to make any mistakes and as I said, we all need to evaluate our performances and to do more. We can’t just play one half of football, we need to give 100% and be fully concentrated for 90 minutes in every game.”
Feghouli must put words into action
Strong, positive words. But since Feghouli’s rallying cry a last gasp 1-0 victory in the League Cup against League Two side Accrington Stanley has done little to convince fans their fortunes are about to come out of hiding anytime soon.
In fact the winger was dragged off at half-time after a woeful showing against a side three divisions below West Ham.
With crucial home games against Southampton and Middlesbrough to come in the next week it is time he put his words into action.
