Glasgow Rangers have been linked with the Greece international but the Gers boss rubbished the rumour.

According to a recent story from the Scottish Daily Record, Rangers manager Pedro Caixinha held talks with Hearts’ soon-to-be free agent Alexandros Tziolis at the weekend, but the Gers boss was quick to rubbish those claims when speaking to reporters this week.

As reported by the Scottish Sun, the Portuguese gave the rumour short shrift, and when you consider the renaissance of Jason Holt in a holding role since Caixinha took charge, that should be no surprise.

Holt is not every Rangers fan’s cup of tea but he is clearly rated by Caixinha and his improvement since switching from a central midfielder to more of a holding role should not go unnoticed.

Eight of Holt’s 11 appearances as a defensive midfielder have come in Rangers’ last eight Scottish Premiership matches and his work-rate has shot up under Caixinha.

Given Holt’s ongoing importance to Rangers, a move for Tziolis – even on a free transfer – makes little sense at this time.

Only the Rangers boss knows what he is planning this summer, but Holt for one will be pleased Tziolis is not on the club’s radar despite earlier reports to the contrary.
