Holger Rune has given a significant update on his Achilles injury that he suffered last year.
Rune ruptured his left Achilles tendon at the Stockholm Open last year, with the Dane leaving the court in tears after retiring from his semifinal against Ugo Humbert.
Due to the severity of this injury, Rune was forced to undergo surgery on his Achilles in October.
Rune has provided many updates on social media since then, and his latest may be his most significant yet.

Holger Rune has made significant progress in recovery from Achilles injury
There had been some concern for Rune at the pace in which he was attempting to recover from his Achilles injury, but he appears to be making steady progress.
Rune had started to hit balls already from a very steady standing position, but he has now taken this even further.
Showcased in a new social media video, Rune is now able to stand unassisted and hit balls, while also moving his feet slightly.
Rune wrote on X (formerly known as Twitter) attached to this video, “13 weeks since my Achilles rupture and surgery and rehab is going really well. Hard work seems to be rewarded step by step #comebackloading #happy.”
What will Holger Rune’s ranking be when he returns to tennis?
Although Rune appears to be making good progress, it is still expected to be some time until he can return to the matchcourt.
This could even see Rune miss all four Grand Slam tournaments this year, which will have a huge impact on his ranking.
While Rune’s ranking is unlikely to be good enough to enter tournaments later this year, he does have a lifeline.
After playing his last tournament at the Stockholm Open, Rune was the world number 10 and is still only the world number 17 now.
If players are out of action for at least six months, they are entitled to an average ranking from their first three months out of competition, which they can use to enter tournaments, including two Grand Slams.
