Holger Rune hasn’t played a professional match since last October.

The Danish number one ruptured his Achilles at the 2025 Stockholm Open.

He’s been recovering ever since, documenting his journey back to professional tennis on social media.

To the surprise of many, Rune made an appearance at this week’s Qatar Open in Doha, a tournament where Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner are competing.

After his first training session at an active ATP facility in some time, Rune posted a message on social media.

“Step by step.

“#Comeback loading.”

Rune is making steps in the right direction, but the likelihood is that it will be a while before he’s back competing on the ATP Tour.

But when exactly can we expect to see the Dane return?

In the replies of his previous post, one fan asked the following question.

“Holger [Rune] do you think you might be able to play Montreal? Might be my first tennis tournament I can attend,” they asked.

Rune replied, confirming his plans to compete at the Canadian Open.

“I will be there,” he said.

The 2026 Canadian Open begins on Sunday, August 2.

That gives Rune 165 days to return to full fitness.

The 22-year-old has only won five of the nine matches he’s played in Canada.

But, he has made steady improvements since his debut in 2022.

After losing in the second round in 2022 and 2023, Rune reached the third round of the Canadian Open in 2024.

Then, in 2025, he qualified for the last 16, where he lost to the defending champion, Alexei Popyrin.

He’ll no doubt have his sights set on a deeper run should he return in time to compete at the 2026 Canadian Open.
