The former Bayern Munich centre-back would be a superb addition to the Everton squad.

Toffees boss Ronald Koeman has been by far the busiest manager during the transfer window so far, and he is clearly not yet finished with his business just yet.

The Dutchman is obviously in the market for another striker, following Romelu Lukaku’s exit, but the addition of another central defender could also feature highly on his agenda, with both Phil Jagielka and Ashley Williams on the wrong side of 32.

And just because Everton have plenty of money, it doesn’t mean they have to spend it, as long as they do not compromise on quality. There are plenty of bargains to be had out there, and one in particular is Germany international Holger Badstuber, who is available on a free transfer, following his release from Bayern Munich this summer.

The 28-year-old centre-back has battled against some serious injuries throughout his career, but he proved during his loan spell with Schalke last season that he still has a lot to offer at the very highest level.

Standing at 6ft 3in, Badstuber is commanding in the air, and plays with a certain level of authority, which stems form his natural leadership skills.

The 31-capped Germany international would undoubtedly strengthen the Toffees’ defence, and the fact that he is available for nothing makes signing him a no-brainer for Koeman.

Badstuber is also entering what should be his prime years for a defender, so if Everton do manage to convince him into moving to Goodison Park, it could turn out to be a real coup for the club.
