Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg has told Spurs Play that he is delighted to be playing alongside Richarlison for Tottenham – but issued a warning to the club’s record signing, saying he still has a lot to learn and must remain focused at Spurs.
Richarlison, 25, was handed his first start for Tottenham on Saturday. Antonio Conte rotated, bringing in Clement Lenglet, Ryan Sessegnon and Richarlison. The 36-time Brazil ace was excellent, after impressing in recent sub outings.
He changed the game against Chelsea, and laid on a gorgeous assist for Harry Kane in a 2-0 win over Nottingham Forest. Against Fulham, he got an assist, hit the post with a superb effort – and was unlucky to have a goal ruled out.
One of his side’s best players on the day, alongside the likes of Ryan Sessegnon, Hugo Lloris and Kane – Richarlison earned praise from Hojbjerg. The midfielder heaped praise on the ex-Everton man, but also warned him to stay sharp.

“Richy is amazing, I am happy he is playing for Spurs,” Hojbjerg said. “Fantastic boy, fantastic mindset, crazy but in a good way. He really deserves what comes his way, but he has to stay focused and concentrated. But well done to him.
“The way he goes around with the ball, his positioning. I’m gutted he didn’t get the goal in the end but it doesn’t take anything away from his performance. He has a lot to learn. We’re happy to have him, but he needs to keep improving.”

Richarlison might be forced to watch from the substitutes’ bench on Wednesday night when Spurs begin their Champions League campaign. Conte’s men play host to French side Marseille, as they look to get off to a winning start.
But for Hojbjerg to speak of Richarlison in this way shows the impact he is having. A player that is always in the headlines, but continues to have an impact – even if from the bench. He deserves to start more games than not.
