West Ham fans have taken to Twitter to react after Tottenham’s Oliver Skipp told the Evening Standard that he looks up to Declan Rice.

The man on loan at Norwich said: “He has played over 100 Premier League games and he’s not too much older than me, so he’d definitely the one I’d be looking to talk to. A big part of their game is their leadership qualities. The vocal demanding, positive attitude.”

Skipp – who is just 20 – is clearly a wise, young midfielder, who’s modelling his game on the right type of player.

A more juvenile figure might obsess over the ridiculous goal tally of Bruno Fernandes, or Kevin De Bruyne’s incredible amount of assists.

However, Skipp is aware that Rice – a deep-lying midfielder too – is the best man to model himself on, as there are many similarities.

Both are English, both like to pick the ball up from deep and carry it, while they both possess a brilliant range of passing.

As you can see, the Hammers fans love his comments, as they’re revelling in the fact Skipp is idolising a West Ham player instead of a Tottenham player.

Both West Ham and Spurs are London rivals, so you can understand why the Irons supporters are enjoying these comments from Skipp.

All rivalries aside, it’s great to hear this from Skipp. If he can become anything like Rice, then England will have a formidable midfield base in future.

Let’s see what the West Ham fans on Twitter have been saying about the Tottenham academy graduate’s comments…
