The Southampton defender believes his side will avoid relegation from the Premier League.
Southampton defender Wesley Hoedt is confident that his side will avoid relegation from the Premier League and claimed that they can take inspiration from their performance in the 1-1 draw with Tottenham Hotspur last weekend.
Mauricio Pellegrino’s side are in 18th place in the table and have won just four league games this season, but Hoedt believes that Southampton will stay up.
As reported by The Daily Echo, Hoedt said: “We definitely need three points because we need a lot more points to be safe.
“That’s our objective and if we play like against Spurs and we start making those chances as well, there’s nothing to worry about.
“But still we have to step up our game.”
Southampton are in FA Cup action this weekend when they host Watford in the fourth round of the competition, but their main objective is certainly to stay in the Premier League.
Pellegrino’s team have much hard work ahead of them in order to fulfil that objective but they will certainly be buoyed by their display against Tottenham, when they defended resolutely and also created some inviting chances.
Hoedt joined Southampton from Lazio last summer and has established himself as a regular in the side, with the 23-year-old starting to show signs that he is adapting well to the demands of the Premier League.
With Virgil Van Dijk gone, Hoedt could have a hugely important part to play for Southampton in the remainder of the campaign and he will be determined to help his side stay up.
