The Crystal Palace boss, who masterminded a 3-2 win at the Etihad, has warned the Reds that they will most likely face the same fate this season.
Crystal Palace manager Roy Hodgson has claimed that Liverpool’s unbeaten run in the Premier League this season is bound to come to an end “against the odds”.
The Reds have enjoyed a superb campaign so far, with top spot in the table a nice Christmas present for their fans and, following 18 games played, they are yet to lose in the league.
On Saturday, Hodgson’s Eagles travelled to Liverpool’s title rivals Manchester City, with the odds stacked against them.
However, the former Anfield boss masterminded a shock 3-2 win over last season’s runaway champions, a result which kept Jurgen Klopp’s side four points clear at the summit.
Despite the weekend’s events buoying many Liverpool fans, their ex-manager warned them not to get too carried away given the quality of their title rivals and the long road ahead.
“I don’t think Pep Guardiola will be too concerned about a four-point gap with 20 games left to play,” Hodgson – at Anfield between July 2010 and January 2011 – is quoted by the Daily Mail as saying.
“One of those is going to be against Liverpool, but even without that game the chances are that Liverpool will go somewhere and something like this will happen.
“Someone will beat them against the odds, there is a long way to go yet and there will be an upset somewhere along the line.”
Liverpool’s festive schedule sees them face three tricky opponents as Rafael Benitez’s Newcastle come to Anfield on Boxing Day, followed by Unai Emery’s Arsenal on Saturday 29 December and a trip to Man City on New Year’s Day.
