Glenn Hoddle said on his podcast that he does not think that Arsenal attacking midfielder Mesut Ozil wants to push himself anymore.

The former Tottenham Hotspur and England international midfielder believes that Ozil will leave Arsenal in the January transfer window.

Hoddle said about Ozil on his podcast: “Something has happened to him because I don’t know whether it’s his fitness, I don’t know if it’s his desire to play anymore, he only wants to play with the ball at his feet, and I think that was the problem and has been for the past two or three years.

“I am not sure he wants to put the hard side of the game in, I just don’t think he wants to hurt himself anymore, push himself anymore. It’s a shame, I think he will move.”

Mesut Ozil’s situation

Ozil has not played for Arsenal since March 2020 and was left out of the Gunners’ Premier League and Europa League squad this season.

The 32-year-old is out of contract at the Gunners at the end of the season, and it is clear that the attacking midfielder will not be handed a new deal by the North London club.

The future of Ozil is uncertain at the moment, with The Guardian reporting that Fenerbahce and DC United are among the clubs interested in the former Real Madrid star.

A report in The Mirror has claimed that the German is also in talks with Arsenal over terminating his current contract.

While Ozil is a very good and creative player, with the emergence of Emile Smith Rowe, the Gunners do not appear to miss him at the moment.
