Glenn Hoddle has said that Carlos Vinicius looked ‘devastated’ at one stage of Tottenham Hotspur’s match last night but he put in a very exciting display.

Speaking to BT Sport, during their live Europa League coverage, Hoddle waxed lyrical about the Tottenham new boy’s debut.

Vinicius claimed two assists as Spurs picked up a 3-0 win against LASK, with his link-up play catching the eye.

Things did not all go to plan for the Brazilian though, as he skewed a close-range header wide early on and missed the chance to open his scoring account on debut.

But Hoddle thinks that the target-man bounced back well from the set-back as the game progressed.

“I think he’s a focal point and a number nine. You know you can play balls into him,” Hoddle said.

“He should have scored, and he was absolutely devastated afterwards that he didn’t score. But he’s prepared to go in behind.

“Look at the ball for the goal for Moura. He looks to me as if he has ability and awareness. It’s exciting to see him play.”

Vinicius’s display certainly does give Mourinho food for thought.

The Portuguese boss actually said after the match that Vinicius could play alongside Harry Kane for Tottenham, which would be an exciting development, if it was to happen.

Vinicius, for the time being, looks more likely to provide cover for Spurs’s star man.

And if he keeps putting in performances of the quality that he showed last night, then Mourinho will surely have no qualms in taking Kane out of the team when he needs a rest.
