Wolverhampton Wanderers are one of the most talked about clubs in English football right now.
A few years short years ago you could not even float the idea of promotion to the Premier League around Wolves fans without being laughed out of the room. Despite being a historically confident fan base they had been worn down by unsuccessful managers and damaging board members, not to mention their performances on the pitch.
It seemed as if they were going to be resigned to years of floundering in the second tier of English football, and while that is not necessarily a bad thing, it does not fit the stature of a club like Wolverhampton Wanderers.
So when Fosun were confirmed as the new owners back in the summer of 2016, you can imagine how the excitement around Molineux began to pick up pretty quickly. The extravagant transfer offers were made, a new boss was brought in, and yet some fans were not sold on the whole thing – which is understandable.
But since that point, the positivity of the players themselves has been what has captured the hearts of Wolves fans up and down the country. They have never once wavered from their belief in the system that has been implemented at the club by Nuno Espirito Santo and, even when things looked bleak, their growth both on the pitch and in interviews has been noticeable.
Instead of the usual transcript we get following a win or a defeat, Wolves players and management alike have been oozing with confidence that you cannot help but be entertained by. It feels like they know whatever is thrown their way, they are able to overcome it, but not in a manner that would lead some to believe that they are ‘cocky’.
Their attitude goes beyond that, and it s clearly spreading to the supporters as they are usually quite a fickle bunch – which they will admit to themselves. But instead of looking at everything that could go wrong, they are choosing to ride this current wave of success and see where it takes them because you never know when it could end.
Nuno has found a professional balance within his Wolves squad, and that will do wonders for them in an ego-driven division like the Premier League.
