Wolves fans have been waiting a long time to get one over on their bitter rivals West Bromwich Albion, and while they’ll probably have to extend their wait for an actual Black Country derby clash, seeing the Baggies go down without a fight will be good enough for them.
West Brom have been Premier League regulars for almost a decade now, but their tenure looks set to come to an end – meanwhile, Wolves are on the verge of a promotion party. With that in mind, it’s interesting to consider the possibility of a few players jumping ship from The Hawthorns to Molineux in the summer.
Oliver Burke
Oliver Burke didn’t come to West Brom to be playing in the Championship, especially given his £15 million price tag. The youngster has built a reputation for himself stemming from his days in Germany, and he’s clearly just waiting to be put into a system where he can implement his abilities. Wolves could use someone with his diversity, and they’ve certainly got the money to make it happen.
Matt Phillips
On his day, Matt Phillips is an absolute nightmare to deal with for any team in England. He probably wouldn’t feature in the starting XI on a regular basis but he’s got experience behind him, and as an impact substitute, Phillips could be someone that Wolves are interested in looking at.
Daniel Sturridge
It may seem a little bit far-fetched, and his injuries could wind up continuing to plague his career, but Daniel Sturridge needs a fresh outlook. Swapping one Midlands side for another isn’t exactly something he’s going to care all that much about, and Wolves are in need of a back-up striker who can pop up with a goal in the dying embers of any given game. Sturridge fits that description and then some.
