With the 2018 FIFA World Cup being just a few months away, football fans from around the nation are gearing up for another international tournament involving England – but unfortunately, our expectations are at an all-time low.

After years of disappointment, it seems as if there is no longer a strong sense of national pride amongst England supporters, which makes a lot of sense. With that being said, there are a few beacons of hope remaining to make the public believe that a successful tournament could be on the horizon.

In order to understand it, though, there needs to be an explanation as to where this has come from. As most fans know Germany are the current world champions and have been progressing into the latter stages of high profile competitions for decades now. One of the big reasons for that is the strong integration of players from the same teams in the Bundesliga, as they are familiar with the style of play their teammates orchestrate.

So, naturally, countries like England should be looking to do the same thing. In the current landscape, there is the possibility of having Kyle Walker and Raheem Sterling down the right-hand side, which is a proven connection that causes problems, and you could even implement Ashley Young into the side in order to link up with Rashford who will be a nightmare for any team in the competition.

But above that, Tottenham Hotspur simply must have a strong presence in this team. With Eric Dier finally finding some form he can easily be slotted into the midfield position behind Dele Alli, and of course, up top, Harry Kane will be waiting to put away any chances that fall to him. As long as the set piece situation is also resolved, there is no reason why England cannot mount a serious challenge in Russia.

They may not necessarily win the entire tournament, but it is important for England fans to just see that their passion and drive is still visible on an international scale.
