The Portuguese superstar picked up his 10th yellow card of the season during last night’s dramatic 2-2 draw against Norwich City, in a challenge that many saw as a potential red card as opposed to a yellow.
Either way, his presence will be sorely missed over the course of the next few weeks, with Wolves currently undergoing something of a ‘slump’ by their standards after two back-to-back, uninspiring draws.
Preston and Norwich were both able to neutralise the effectiveness of Wolves’ attacking game, and with many of the club’s starting XI looking extremely tired last night, it seems as if the Neves suspension may be the catalyst for manager Nuno Espirito Santo to make some changes ahead of the games against Fulham and Reading.
One such change that many fans are anticipating will see Romain Saiss being given a chance to make a strong impression on the first team.
With that in mind Wolves fans should be optimistic, given that Alfred N’Diaye has grabbed his opportunity and ran with it since being reintroduced into the fold.
Neves’ creative flair will certainly be missed, with supporters being worried about what Saiss can bring to the table in his absence.
The 27-year-old struggled to make much of an impression after being brought on last night, although he already had his back against the wall with some fans voicing their displeasure regarding bringing him on in place of Helder Costa.
One of the biggest issues will be embedding Saiss into the starting line-up with so little time until their next game against Fulham, as he tends to not create as many forward-thinking opportunities in comparison to his Portuguese counterpart.
When it comes to listening to the fans, it will be interesting to see whether or not youngster Morgan Gibbs-White will be given a chance ahead of Saiss following an impressive outing at Molineux.
Either way, it is a decision that could prove to be crucial in the grand scheme of Wolves’ promotion push.
