Wolves fans aren’t happy after being denied the chance to celebrate in style.
While Wolves will be lifting the Championship title on Saturday afternoon, some fans are already turning their attention towards the final day of the season when they travel up north to face Sunderland at the Stadium of Light.
It’ll be the final time the two teams meet in league competition for quite some time with Wolves heading to the Premier League, whereas The Black Cats’ drop into the third tier of English football has already been confirmed. However, this clash already has more controversy than was originally expected, with Express & Star reporting that the champions have been denied additional tickets.
The move comes as a surprise to many given that the Stadium of Light has been half empty for large portions of the season, with some members of the Molineux faithful seeing it as a sign of Sunderland being bitter.
“To put some context into the issue, the away supporters are situated in the upper north stand at the Stadium of Light, the east end of the away section is the end of the stand itself,” a spokesperson for Sunderland said.
“With this in mind, the only additional seats that logistically we could consider allocating to Wolves supporters were in the upper north-west corner.
“This corner houses a significant number of Sunderland season card holders, many of whom have held their seats for many years.”
