Liverpool’s Dejan Lovren is back in the spotlight for all of the wrong reasons.
Dejan Lovren has proven himself to be a thorn in Liverpool’s side more often than not throughout his days at Anfield, and in the wake of his performance against Manchester United at the weekend, it could be time for the 28-year-old to move on.
Lovren was at fault time and time again during the Reds’ 2-1 defeat at the hands of Jose Mourinho’s men, and we seem to be at the point now where supporters are beyond being able to laugh at his mistakes.
Courtesy of their flourishing attacking prowess, Liverpool fans have pushed their defensive woes to one side over the last few months, and instead, it has been referred to as a footnote in what has been a successful season for Jurgen Klopp’s side.
Unfortunately, that cannot last forever, and now, the finger of blame needs to be pointed at those responsible – with Lovren being a key culprit. While it is obvious that he can play well dependant on who he lines up alongside at centre back, his decision making has been unbelievably poor ever since he moved to Merseyside in 2014, and things should have gotten much better by now.
It is starting to seem like this is some kind of test of patience for Liverpool supporters, or perhaps the club are just desperately attempting to justify the sum they pay him on a weekly basis. Either way, if Liverpool want to take things to the next level in terms of their development, they need to seriously consider the possibility of selling Lovren in the summer.
Lovren is seen as a laughing stock by opposition supporters and it has been that way for a while now, with his confidence in recent weeks clearly proving to be nothing more than false hope.
The Reds are set to face a high-profile side in the quarter finals of the UEFA Champions League, which could wind up proving to be the last straw if the defender comes up against world-class forwards.
