Following a disappointing defeat at the weekend, Tottenham Hotspur have only themselves to blame.

Much has been said about the great Mauricio Pochettino this season in addition to how strong his side is, but in the last few weeks some glaring cracks have begun to show.

Whether it is their weaknesses in Europe or lack of stability, Tottenham Hotspur’s season could very well be in the balance in more ways than one over the coming weeks.

One of the big points for criticism was the defeat against Manchester United at the weekend. For years when Spurs have come up against the Red Devils they tend not to put in the greatest of displays, which was more understandable given the fear struck into them during the Fergie days.

But now, it does not really make any sense. Given how much United sit back upon taking the lead under Jose Mourinho, they were there for the taking had Spurs challenged them a bit more.

Their performance at Old Trafford felt very passive, with many Tottenham players just sort of strolling about the pitch without a care in the world.

They were beating themselves without the opposition even having to lift a finger. Trying to break United down with long balls is one of the more baffling tactics you are likely to see throughout the entire campaign.

You have to have guts to go to the Theatre of Dreams and put in a strong performance against United, but they just did not look bothered in the slightest. If you compare this game with the one back in April, it is honestly like light and day.

If you lose with dignity the pain subsides, but when you go down without an ounce of fight in you then there is a big problem.
