Reading’s early season form is an indication of their ambitions for the season ahead under Jaap Stam.
Nobody could quite have predicted the impact Jaap Stam would have on Reading this season.
The club currently find themselves fourth in the Championship, and their rise has gone relatively unnoticed. They were not in too many people’s predictions for promotion at the start of the campaign, but now everyone has to stand up and take notice.
The important thing to remember about the Royals is their experience. Deep rooted in the club is a knowledge of how to edge into those promotion spots, which is something that cannot be said for the likes of Brighton & Hove Albion.
The momentum that they are currently riding under Stam works well with that history of success, and if Reading can maintain that then the top two is well within reach.

One of the main reasons they have not been picked up on is their squad. There are no huge fancy names, just seasoned players like Paul McShane, Garath McCleary and Chris Gunter who know what it takes to grind out victories in this division.
If you mix that in with the likes of Yann Kermorgant, who is being given another chance to shine, this odd group are the perfect candidates to slowly creep up on promotion despite everyone’s pre-season predicitions.
