Newcastle United’s Jonjo Shelvey could very well still find himself in the England starting line-up at some point.
With Gareth Southgate taking over as England boss, it has opened the door for a lot of possibilities when it comes to call-ups.
While some people he will be the typical ‘yes’ man that will not create any real change, others believe the former defender will bring in a range of fresh new talent in order to freshen up the international scene.
One of the potential rising stars that could be in for a call up soon is Jonjo Shelvey. Despite the midfielder’s recent suspension, he has had an extremely successful season in the Championship with the Magpies so far and has proved why people used to rate him so highly.

Shelvey already has six England appearances to his name but after a few years away from the spotlight, it is clear he is ready to make an impact once again.
Plus, the midfielder is still only 24 which means he has got a good few years left in him at the top level, and he can continue to grow if put in the England set-up by learning from more experienced heads around him.

With three goals and six assists in the league this season, Shelvey has proved his ability to completely command a game and dictate the pace of the action.
His through balls, long range passes and composed nature under pressure from opponents is something that England have not had in the middle of the park for a while now.
Obviously there are some issues to iron out but there is a hole in that national team that needs filling, and despite not playing in the top flight there are not too many better options to take a chance on than Shelvey.
