Wolverhampton Wanderers and West Bromwich Albion are bitter rivals, but do the old gold & black want their neighbours to go down?

West Bromwich Albion are closer to relegation than they have ever been during their current Premier League tenure, but on the contrary to what you may believe, Wolverhampton Wanderers fans are not clamouring for them to go down.

The rise and fall of the two clubs over the course of the last few years has been quite remarkable, to say the least, with both going through a variety of changes while still maintaining the same consistency – the Baggies in the top flight, and the Wanderers in the second tier.

But in the present day, that is never been closer to changing, with just one position separating the two teams as Wolves lead the way in the Championship meanwhile Pardew’s men are rooted to the bottom of the Premier League.

Now one of the most obvious reasons behind Wolves wanting to stay up is, you guessed it, so that they can gain a measure of revenge on their bitter rivals.

Seeing them slip down to the Championship would almost be an easy way out for West Brom, with the two teams having not met in a baffling six years since the Baggies dismantled Wolves 5-1 in what was the old gold & black’s final season in the PL to date.

Those derby days are not just great for the two sets of fans, but they are great for the clubs in general. When you have got those two dates to look forward to when the fixtures come out every season, it adds an extra sense of excitement and anticipation to the campaign ahead.

Plus, and this point cannot be understated, Wolves fans realise just how great having the Baggies stay up would be for the future of Midlands football.

For years we have seen Leicester and West Brom thrive meanwhile the other East and West Midlands clubs struggle, but now, there is a serious possibility of five teams representing the region in 2018/19.

Derby, Villa and Wolves are all on the rise and are threatening to gain promotion, which would help to repair the reputation of the Midlands which has been so critically damaged in recent years.

Sure, there is a section of fans who just want to see the Baggies suffer, but the gratification of Wolves getting the chance to beat them in a top-flight clash would surely be the priority.
