After Rowett made the move from Burton Albion to Birmingham City, many people were curious as to whether or not he could continue his success.
After all, there is a long history of managers who have made the step up to a higher level too quickly. Thankfully for Blues fans, the 42-year-old local lad has turned the fortunes of the Midlands side around.
His good work has not gone unnoticed, either. The heavy links with QPR in the last few weeks served as a key reminder to Birmingham that this is a wanted man who is quickly on the up in his career.
No matter how comfortable he may seem, there are always higher aspirations for someone managing in the Championship.
But Rowett is smarter than that. At Birmingham he is already being treated like an icon, and the stability that comes with that reputation is hard to find in today’s footballing landscape. Birmingham have been through so much in the last few years that Rowett is their roc, and he would be foolish to throw that away for the risk of more success.
Plus, you can just see from his attitude that the guy wants to stay. Whether it is insisting upon more fans showing up to games in order to create a better atmosphere or challenging the club’s youngsters, it is evident that he is in it for the long haul.
The pressure is off Rowett. Birmingham currently sit above expectations just outside the top six, and a surge towards the play-offs would be greeted with pleasant surprise from supporters. Right now, he will not be tempted away from all the good going on at St Andrew’s.
