Roy Hodgson is doing a solid enough job with Crystal Palace, and this seems like the perfect fit for him.
Crystal Palace manager Roy Hodgson has done incredibly well to lift the Eagles out of the relegation zone in the face of great adversity and, as we move into the latter stages of the season, we are starting to believe that this could be where he has his managerial swansong.
Hodgson’s management career started a long time ago back in the mid-70s, and since then, he has had an extremely inconsistent career in both club and international management. For every Fulham and West Brom, there was a Liverpool and an England, although we hope that is not his everlasting legacy.
Hodgson began his playing career with Palace as a youngster and although he did not exactly have a flourishing tenure there, it is interesting to note that there is a chance for him to bookend his time in football at Selhurst Park.
So far during his time as manager, he has been able to lift Palace up into 15th position, which is a remarkable achievement considering where they were on his arrival. With so many injuries to deal with, there is obviously a chance things could go south in the next few months, but the board needs to ensure they do not act rashly if that happens.
If Hodgson manages to keep the club up, he will be a hero. If they go down, there is no better man to take on the challenge of getting them back up at the very first attempt.
If he leaves and goes elsewhere then he will run the risk of ruining another piece of great work. As the saying goes you are only as good as your last game, and he seems to be really invested in making things work down in London.
A lot of the ‘pressure’ so to speak falls on the shoulders of the Crystal Palace board, who need to understand that Hodgson can build something special if given the time. All managers go through adversity, but that is no reason not to trust in their long-term abilities.
