Crystal Palace are one of the many teams involved in the relegation dogfight this year.
Crystal Palace are locked in yet another relegation scrap as we move towards the end of the campaign, but unlike in years gone by, they really should not be all too worried about the next few weeks leading up to the end of the season.
While literally anything could happen throughout the course of the next seven games, you could argue that Palace are through the worst of it. They are one of the most battle-tested teams in the league when it comes to these kinds of situations, especially when you compare their recent history to that of their nearest rivals.
West Ham United and Southampton have both experienced extended periods of success lately with ventures into Europe, and as such, would not have prepared themselves for the fight that is to come from now until May. Their recent form suggests that things are going to be even trickier for them moving forward, and you can count Huddersfield Town in as part of that group given that they are starting to falter down the stretch of their first ever Premier League campaign.
Under Roy Hodgson, Palace have a man who has orchestrated this kind of escape before. With Fulham and West Bromwich Albion, all hope seemed lost, especially with the Cottagers, and with that experience comes a certain degree of poise – which we have already been seeing from Hodgson over the last few weeks.
Club football suits him much better than international football, and now that Palace are through a rough patch of games they can look forward to a relatively favourable schedule for the remainder of the season.
After hosting Liverpool, they will take on Bournemouth, Brighton, Watford, Leicester, Stoke and West Brom which should all be considered games that are more than winnable. Plus, their injury problems are slowly starting to ease up with Connor Wickham, Wilfried Zaha, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Yohan Cabaye all now being available for selection.
There is no guarantee of safety, but things are looking up for the Eagles.
