Following Aston Villa’s first defeat under Steve Bruce, it is important that fans remain calm.

Nobody is perfect. From the second that he was announced as manager, Steve Bruce has been under a great deal of pressure to bring success back to Villa Park. Thankfully for the club he has done a pretty solid job so far, however the weekend saw the Villans suffer their first loss under the former Birmingham City boss.

But that is no reason for worry, at least not yet. Leeds are on the run of their lives under Garry Monk and while there were things that could have been rectified, there is no shame in losing to a team on form that good.

In the Championship momentum is everything and these things happen. The important thing Villa fans need to look at is the progress and growing confidence within this squad.

If that loss had come in the first two or three games of Bruce’s tenure then this may be a different conversation, but the side are starting to piece together all the attributes necessary for success.

This division is relentless, but nobody knows that more than Bruce himself. The experience he has with turning things round and coming back from the brink of disappointment speaks for itself, and right now Villa are where they need to be.

Lurking below the play-offs, waiting for their moment – and it will come.
