West Ham United have not experienced the joyful start to life at London Stadium they were expecting, as they currently find themselves in the relegation zone after just one league win from their first seven games. Their most recent result was a 1-1 draw with Middlesbrough at the weekend and as reported by Newham Recorder, defender James Collins has spoken about the team’s performance and how they managed to improve in order to stop the losing run.

“We knew what we had to do,” he said. “We haven’t been working hard enough and we were looking at that all week.

“I watched the game last week because I wasn’t involved and that was evident from what I saw.

“We had some discussions about that and everyone accepted that we needed to work harder and I think we did against Boro.

“You aren’t going to win a game when you are showing a lack of effort, so we were determined to try harder this week.”

Work ethic has been something that fans have questioned over the last few weeks, in a period where many supporters were hoping the club would also be contesting in the Europa League.

Despite not getting all three points against the Teessiders, the draw was an important stepping stone for the Hammers as they attempt to gradually work their way back up the table.

The international break will allow Bilic to re-group and consider a new strategy in preparation for their trip to Selhurst Park to face Crystal Palace in what will be a huge game.
