West Ham United hero Billy Bonds has made some negative comments regarding the club’s new home at London Stadium.
Many people were speculative when it was confirmed that West Ham United would be moving to the new London Stadium, especially considering how long they had spent at the Boleyn Ground. As reported by Sky Sports, one man who has not taken too kindly to the move is club legend Billy Bonds.
“I don’t think it’s a football ground,” he said. “That’s not to say I didn’t moan about it when we were moving, but I didn’t share a lot of opinions about it because we were going to move anyway, so it didn’t matter.
“We don’t own the place and there are a lot of problems with that going on, but it’s still where our team are going to play and if you’re a West Ham supporter then you’re going to embrace it.”
The change in stadium has coincided with a poor start to the season for the Hammers, as the club find themselves down in 18th after five games. If results continue to go against them, fans may start looking towards manager Slaven Bilic as a potential reason for their downfall.
They also crashed out of the Europa League to the same side for the second consecutive year, which was especially hard to take considering European football was one of the big hopes for the first season in the new ground.
Whether or not the new surroundings are playing a factor is irrelevant, as it is on the pitch that West Ham need to turn things around.
They will be hoping that process can begin with a victory over Accrington Stanley in the League Cup tonight.
