West Bromwich Albion midfielder Darren Fletcher has been praised by Gordon Strachan in an interesting way.
Darren Fletcher has been a consistent part of West Bromwich Albion’s midfield since arriving at the club in 2015, and the 32-year-old continues to gain praise for his performances at the Midlands side. As captain of both club and country he is held to a certain stand, and one man in particular believes he fits the bill perfectly. As reported by Metro, Scotland manager Gordon Strachan has made some interesting comments about Fletcher.
Strachan was speaking before his side’s clash with Lithuania when he stated that Fletcher was a role model for upcoming footballers.
“There is not a tattoo on his body, he doesn’t walk about with big headphones on, he hasn’t got a cockatoo hairstyle and he doesn’t wear outrageous shoes,” he said.
“He just wants to play football. He is a smashing advert for any kid. He is great for us because you just need to see him walking about.
“I don’t think there has ever been a negative headline about Darren. He never causes any problems.
“Remember that guy has been everywhere and played every big game. You wouldn’t know when you speak to him. So unassuming, humble.”
Fletcher has been captain of Scotland since August 2009 and has over 70 caps for his country to date.
It is certainly an interesting point that many will surely agree with. Fletcher is a model professional and will always be seen as such, which is a quality that only a handful of today’s stars have.
He will continue to try to lead by example when the Baggies host Tottenham Hotspur following the international break.
