West Bromwich Albion manager Tony Pulis has commented on his side’s narrow defeat against Liverpool.
Under Tony Pulis, West Bromwich Albion have experienced a solid enough start to their 2016/17 Premier League campaign. Unfortunately that did not continue at the weekend against Liverpool, with the Midlands side suffering a narrow 2-1 defeat at the hands of the in-form Reds. Despite the loss there are certainly positives to have come out of the game for the Baggies, and as reported by the Birmingham Mail manager Pulis has commented on what his side were lacking during the game.
Sadio Mane and Philippe Coutinho gave Liverpool a two-goal cushion at the break, and despite Gareth McAuley’s goal the visitors were not able to find that decisive equaliser. When speaking about the game, Pulis stated that their record against bigger sides may have affected them.
“I think it’s just attitude of mind sometimes coming to these big clubs,” he told the Birmingham Mail.
“You’ve got to have the belief and the confidence.
“The two wide players got pushed back but when we won the ball they were still back in areas they should never have been in.
“If we hadn’t given the goals away we could have sorted it out then. But Liverpool are a good side.”
The result leaves West Brom down in 13th place. However given their resilience and performances this season fans will be confident that they can once again avoid the drop.
Pulis’s men have a tough few games coming up in the next couple weeks, with Manchester City and Leicester City set to really test the Midlands side and their capabilities for the campaign ahead.
