Tottenham Hotspur defender Toby Alderweireld could miss this weekend’s game against Crystal Palace with a leg injury.

As revealed by manager Mauricio Pochettino, Tottenham Hotspur defender Toby Alderweireld is a doubt for Sunday’s game against Crystal Palace due to a minor leg injury.

The 28-year-old’s knock came during training, to the same leg that kept him out of action for over three months. As seen in the below quotes courtesy of Football.London, Pochettino claims he will be officially assessed today and tomorrow prior to the game.

“It was only Toby yesterday that could not finish the training session after an incident,” the Tottenham boss said. “It was an incident in the same leg but a different area. We will assess him today and tomorrow.”

The conspiracy theorists have already come out in force as many would have anticipated, given that the Belgian has been strongly linked with a move away from the North London club in the last 24 hours.

This could be seen as an indication of the beginning of the end for some supporters, although there is every chance it is just a coincidence. After all, the summer transfer window is months away and Alderweireld has always come across as a player who would not throw his arms up in the air if he did not get his own way.

This will undoubtedly be a big talking point over the course of the next 48 hours, especially considering that Spurs face a busy schedule in the next few weeks.

Alderweireld’s presence in the team on Sunday may not be seen as much of an issue by those who do not see Crystal Palace as much of a threat, but Tottenham have to plan for the likes of Juventus, Huddersfield and Bournemouth, who are all on the horizon in the next three weeks.
