To say that Wolverhampton Wanderers have had a rollercoaster season this year would be understatement.
As a club, Wolverhampton Wanderers have been in limbo for a long time now. Ever since their relegation from the Premier League their fans have been put through a great deal of stress, and the 2016/17 season is turning out to be no different. With half of the campaign still to go, it’s time to look at three times when the Molineux supporters nearly gave up all forms of hope.
Wolves 0-4 Barnsley
Barnsley players celebrate after the game
Regardless of how the club were performing on a week to week basis, this was a slobber knocker of a blow. As many people know Wolves fans have a tendency to be rather fickle, and they were calling for the heads of everyone you could imagine after this embarrassment. It’s fair to say that Molineux was looking increasingly empty by full time.
Blackburn 1-1 Wolves
Blackburn Rovers manager Owen Coyle
This was when you knew they were in trouble. Blackburn Rovers, who had been notoriously awful throughout the start of the season, managed to pick up a point against a Wolves side who just didn’t look like their heads were in the game. With so much uncertainty at this point, supporters felt as if it couldn’t get much worse for their beloved club.
Wolves 0-2 Sheffield Wednesday
Sheffield Wednesday manager Carlos Carvalhal
Unfortunately, they were wrong. This home defeat at the hands of the Owls meant that Wolves had gone nine games without a victory in what was becoming another relegation-threatened campaign. Thankfully they have somewhat steadied the ship since then, but it was all starting to feel very familiar to the Solbakken & Saunders League One voyage.
