Everton goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg has spoken out regarding manager Ronald Koeman’s reaction to their loss at Bournemouth.
Following such a positive start to the season a league loss was always going to be a bitter pill to swallow for Everton, especially as it came against a side that fans would expect them to beat. As reported by Liverpool Echo, goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg has spoken about how frustrated Koeman was with the defeat to Bournemouth.
“He is not happy but among the players nobody is happy,” Stekelenburg said.
“The first half hour was not like we want to play so you have to be happy that we are just 1-0 down (in that period).
“The first half hour was just not good enough today.”
The Everton number one went on to say that Koeman would analyse every single detail of the loss to the Cherries, pointing out where everybody went wrong and how they need to go about improving it.
When speaking about the goal that won it, Stekelenburg had the following to say:
“It was a fantastic strike but the question has to be raised as to how free he was on the edge of the box but we have to analyse.”
It sounds like Koeman is ingraining the idea into the minds of the players that everything can be improved. The Dutchman wants perfection from his side and there is nothing wrong with that, but the question is whether or not his methods will lead Everton back within touching distance of a place in Europe.
The Toffees’ next challenge comes when they host Crystal Palace this weekend.
