Recent statistics show that away fans seem to prefer travelling to Villa Park than most other Championship clubs.
As reported by Birmingham Mail, recent statistics have shown that a trip to Villa Park is one of the most appealing away days in the Championship alongside Fulham’s Craven Cottage.
It is no secret that Villa are one of the biggest clubs in the second tier and, beyond that, they may still be one of the biggest clubs in England. With that being said, these figures from last season will do nothing to calm the bragging rights of Villa fans who know just how much supporters look forward to an away day on their home turf.
The Midlands club came in second place last season in terms of how many away fans came to their ground, with the final number coming in at 49,528, bettered only by the aforementioned Cottagers who managed a staggering 60,685.
Of course, some will say that is due to their neutral end in addition to the reputation Craven Cottage holds, but that is neither here nor there.
This means that last season the club brought in well over £1 million in ticket sales for away fans and, while some will choose to complain about the rising prices associated with the sport, you certainly get your money’s worth with a stadium like Aston Villa’s.
Funnily enough, fans who choose to negate these figures with stats of their own about stadium capacities will find their theories falling short of the mark rather quickly.
Last season Villa did indeed have the second biggest capacity in the Championship behind Newcastle, who ironically pulled in less away fans than Steve Bruce’s men. Meanwhile, Fulham are all the way down in 15th with a capacity of just 25,680.
The number of tickets made available can and should be seen as a contributing factor but, at the end of the day, Villa Park and Craven Cottage are rightly known for being top class stadiums regardless of their division.
