Tottenham’s Son Heung-min is not afraid of Juventus, and that is the right mentality to have.
When it comes to underrated stars in the Premier League, you will not find many pundits who do not think Son Heung-min is among the best of the best.
The South Korean has been written off time and time again and in the face of that, has flown under the radar with some of the best performances the top flight has seen from a forward this season. While he may have only racked up 15 goals, his overall input is there for everyone to see, from his work ethic to his unselfishness.
Plus, his durability alone is something that has served Spurs brilliantly thus far in 2017/18. For example – did you know that he has appeared more than 40 times for the North London club in all competitions this season? That is more than most players from teams in the top six, and regardless of the public opinion on whether he is ‘world class’ or not, the 25-year-old is still the ultimate team player.
Up next for Son and Tottenham is Juventus, as Mauricio Pochettino’s side look to advance to the next round of the Champions League.
“It’s a Champions League game against a difficult opponent,” Son told Sky Sports.
“We play at home but we are not scared. We need to play our game, be confident and play forward like we play at Wembley. That’s the most important thing.”
“I have to accept it if the gaffer doesn’t choose me: I just have to be ready if I come on or if I’m on the bench.”
Being a squad player who is dedicated to the cause is such a vital element of being a Premier League star, and when you consider how much playing time Son has had this season, it really is refreshing to see.
What is also refreshing is knowing that Spurs are going into the game against Juventus with no fear, because in reality, they have no reason to be afraid. They went to Turin and had their backs against the wall from the word go, whilst not being at full strength, and yet once they had calmed down they managed to completely neutralise the Italians.
Spurs are unbeaten in 17 games and with the second leg being at Wembley, they have got nothing to lose. With two away goals, they hold a huge advantage that many fans and pundits are not even talking all that much about, and in Son Heung-min, they have got yet another potential game-winner among their already stacked crop of all-stars.
