Defender Danny Batth has always been a big fan favourite at Molineux, and his captaincy this season is more important than ever given the recent influx of talent at the club. He has started the campaign off well and, as reported by Express & Star, Batth said he was proud of his side’s performance at the weekend.

Following their embarrassing 4-0 home loss at the hands of Barnsley, many fans were skeptical as to whether or not they could engineer a successful campaign. However, their fears were put to rest for the time being after they ran out 2-0 winners over Newcastle United at St James’ Park.

“I think we showed spirit, character and quality,” he said.

“I backed us. I revel in that. When people write you off it gives you more determination.”

The result saw Wolves move back into the top 10 in what has been an up and down start to the season, as Batth went on to praise the fantastic support from the fans at the weekend.

“I’m hoping the fans are pleased with that,” he added. “We heard them and they were brilliant. In terms of a level we’ve set the bar, if we want to be serious in this division.”

The Midlands side will be hoping they can carry this league momentum forward when they host Brentford on Saturday.
