Rotherham boss Alan Stubbs sticks by his players

Rotherham United manager Alan Stubbs has stated that he will stick by his players despite their poor start to the season.

Rotherham United’s turbulent start to the season continued at the weekend with a 3-1 loss at the hands of high-flying Norwich City. While there is no shame in losing to such a quality team, it does continue to pile the pressure on both the players and manager Alan Stubbs. As reported by The Star, Stubbs has stated that he will continue to stick by his players as he truly believes they are giving their all for the club.

The result leaves the Millers five points off survival at the bottom of the Championship, and the loss also saw them lose their first six away games of the season for the first time since 1921. With such negativity surrounding the New York Stadium, it is admirable that Stubbs continues to put a brave face on the situation.

“I’ll stick behind them 100 per cent if they give me 100 pc effort,” he told The Star.

“They’re trying their best. I can accept that all day long. It’s when I don’t see that that I would be more concerned. I’ve got a group of lads doing the best they can do.

“I can’t ask them to do more than they can give. I would like to! For me, they don’t look like a group of players who have downed tools.

“We’ll keep going, keep working hard in trying to be hard to beat and see where that takes us.”

With just one clean sheet and one victory to their name to date, confidence is certainly going to be lacking within the squad.

Something that fans will try to remember about the situation is that they have played three of the best teams in the division in the last few weeks, and that tough run will continue with a clash against play-off contenders Birmingham City next time out.
